by the Youth

A digitally-savvy and globally connected Gen Z has been at the forefront of the protests in Myanmar.  In the words of a popular protest slogan, “You messed with the wrong generation.”

When the coup happened, 21-year old Ko Myay Kway who was then living in Thailand, returned to Myanmar to join his brothers in the battle to win back the country’s freedom. As a photographer and filmmaker, he fought with the weapon he knew well: his camera.

But when the violence erupted, he soon found himself holding Molotov cocktails instead, “I don’t want to hurt anyone but I thought that we have to do whatever it takes to defeat the enemy.”
